For this assignment, I used AI to polish my resume for two roles: customer service retail associate and administrative assistant. My main prompts were things like: “Rewrite this resume for a customer service retail associate job at a clothing store. Keep my experience the same, but make the bullet points more action-based and include customer service keywords,” and “Tailor this resume for an entry-level administrative assistant role, highlighting organization, scheduling, and computer skills.”
Compared to my original versions, the AI-generated resumes had much clearer bullet points, stronger action verbs, and more specific results (for example, mentioning handling cash, assisting customers, managing files, and supporting office operations). The wording sounded more professional but still true to my experience.
From this process, I learned that prompt engineering really matters. When I gave specific job titles, skills to highlight, and the tone I wanted, the AI did a much better job. I also saw how important it is to tailor content to each audience instead of using one generic resume.
